Remodelmate Expanding to Denver

Remodelmate, a Washington, D.C.-based tech company that connects remodeling contractors with homeowners, is expanding to Denver.

The company has about two dozen contractor teams using the site throughout the D.C. metro area, according to Chad Hall, founder and CEO. There are over 300 Denver-based contractors on the waiting list as of late May. Hall is working on building up a supply of contractors on the platform before the expected launch date in the third quarter.

“We want to make sure we can deliver a pretty good user experience from the jump,” he said. “We might be able to get 200, 300, 400 homeowners to come to the site on Day 1. We want to make sure that there’s a healthy number of contractors so if 10% of those visitors converted, everybody has the ability to start their project inside of a month.”

When considering where to expand, Hall said he was looking for four things: a healthy tech scene, the presence of four-year universities, a young population, and a real estate market that was “a little bit expensive so that customer is more likely to buy a fixer-upper and update their kitchen or their bathroom.”

Hall said Chicago, Denver and Detroit made it to the top three of his list. He ultimately chose Denver because “it was the best ranking of what we were looking for, but also there were other home improvement sites in the ecosystem already.”

Havenly, an interior design startup, is headquartered in Denver, as well as Golden-based HomeAdvisor.
